St. George Street
The heart and soul of Old Town St. Augustine is the charming and eclectic St. George Street. During colonial days, St. George Street was the city’s main thoroughfare and place of business. Now filled with one-of-a-kind boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and attractions, this historic street is still considered to be the cultural center of the city. Completely off-limits to cars and even bicycles, pedestrians are free to wander in and out of the small shops that are nestled inside of and between the historic building that line St. George Street. Starting the day off early not only lets visitors beat the afternoon heat and throngs of shoppers and tourists, but also makes it easier to slip in and out of the various boutiques, often with the opportunity of meeting the store owners who can be as inviting and unique as the shops themselves. Parking is available at locations throughout many of the nearby side streets and is usually only a short walk away from St. George Street’s many attractions.
